My favorite blogging podcasts

Back into blogging!

Since I decided to pick blogging back up after quite some time away from it, I have been deep diving into the various podcasts and articles out there to help me get a better footing and to help me reach the right people who will benefit the most from my content.

I’ve learned so much just from listening to experienced bloggers such as Jenna Urben with The Bloggerbytes Podcast, Alston Godbolt’s Making a Millionaire podcast, as well as The Ultimate Blog Podcast with Amy Reinecke and Jennifer Draper, to name my recent favorites. They each give practical, no-nonsense advice about what to expect if you are trying to start your own blog, or if you have one but you’re looking to monetize it, or if you just want to get better at what you do. I highly recommend any of these three for starters.

When do you have time to listen?

There is so much to learn in this arena that I try to absorb a little bit every day when I have time (usually when I’m on my run, I’m listening to a podcast instead of music). When I hear something new that seems like it will be useful, I jot it down in my notes app on my phone to look at later so I don’t forget. Some of these creators are extremely helpful and will go into detail about where to go for good information, and others are just pushing their own products (downloadable content that you have to pay for) in order to excel in your blogging journey. You have to use discretion when selecting the right products if you want to get better as a blogger, as there is so much out there, you don’t want to throw your money away for things you can learn online for free by doing a simple Google search.

Benefits of being a blogger

The podcast I listened to today by the ladies at The Ultimate Blog Podcast talked about benefits of being a full-time blogger, and they didn’t get more than a few points in before I knew that this was something that I wanted to try to do for as long as I possibly can. The ability to work from home (or anywhere in the world, for that matter), to be present with their families, and to give up the 9-5 and make your own schedule were some points that really grabbed my attention. Over the time I’ve been studying how to make a successful blog, I’ve been hearing that it takes most bloggers a long time (read: 1 year or more) to start to really get a good amount of traffic to their sites. A lot of bloggers start out optimistic and bright-eyed, only to give up after a few weeks because it takes a lot of work, time, and effort into getting a good blog up and running.

In a future post I will plan to write more about the specific tips and tricks I’m digesting if you might one day decide to create your own blog, and want to know what it takes to build a successful one.

As for now, it’s time for me to log off as it’s date night with Alex. Until next time!
