A week up in Traverse City
I’m back to the grind after about a week of vacation up north in Traverse City, where I got to watch my sister (and future sisters-in-law!) run in the Bayshore Marathon and 10K races!
I did not participate, but joined them at the finish line to congratulate them and cheer them on. I was bummed there wasn’t a 5K option (that’s what I run every day) but I am on the hunt now for other 5K races in the area that are close to home.
The weather was a bit chilly but perfect for a run!
Outside of that main event, we got to visit Brys Estate, a large winery on the Old Mission peninsula. I had never been to this particular winery, though several in the family have and it came highly recommended by them.
We ended up going for the charcuterie boards, and Dad and I shared a flight of reds (his preferred) and white wines (my preferred). The cheese and breadsticks were perfect! I tried Frosé (frozen rosé) for the first time and had a riesling topper – mixed it up and it was a delicious wine slushie! But it was a bit too sweet after a few sips, so I shared it with my sibs and their SOs.
We stayed at an Airbnb that was very fairly priced for Traverse City, but after a day or two we could tell why it wasn’t as expensive as the other houses in the area (1-ply toilet paper… a corroded teapot…uncomfortable beds that kept us up!). One thing I know I prefer when travelling is the consistency you get when staying at a hotel. You can always expect a certain level of quality (plush beds, clean sheets, extra travel items at the concierge in case you forget). I also like to have a workout room so I can get my run in, even if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Speaking of weather cooperating, the sky is super blue today and my weedwhacker is all charged up, so I’m going to head outside for some more yard work!
I have a lot of backyard projects I’m planning for this summer, and will do my best to document the progress here.
Until next time!
