Metro Detroit Improv
My journey as an improv leader in Southeast Michigan
My improv journey began in high school when I was taken to my first improv show by my cousin, Yvette. I knew I had a passion for improv, as I had dabbled in it in high school, and have always loved when we had extra time at the end of drama class to play short form games.
I started attending improv meetups around 2016 to get back into it after college and getting my Masters degree. The group I attended up until about 2017, led by a good man I refer to as my Improv mentor, was a bit far away from home, and as such, I wanted something a bit closer (not an hour’s drive one way).
In 2017, a group of friends and I banded together to create a Meetup group for folks in the community to play short form improv games together for a few hours twice a month. Metro Detroit Improv was born, and I have had the pleasure of hosting meetups in Livonia with some of my closest friends since then!
Today, Metro Detroit Improv (MDI) has had the pleasure of teaching various corporations how to use the skills you can learn in improv to improve your communication skills in the workplace and in life in general. We are searching for a permanent space we can call our home, but for now, we rent space in a local theatre.
